Randall's Eye Surgery

This morning Randall had eye surgery at the Brighton Surgery Center. Randall had a Chalazion on his left eye. Usually they go away on their own, but after 8 months the doctors decided it needed to be surgically removed.

Adults generally receive a local anesthetic for this procedure, but children must go under general anesthesia. Because the surgeon is working on the face, the children must also breathe via a tube during surgery. This causes a sore throat after waking up.

Randall did wonderful! The nurse said he was the best recovery she's ever had. When he woke up he asked her what time it was (9:00 am) because his class was going on a field trip to the Erie Canal at 10:30 and he wondered if he could make it! He may have a scar on the eyelid but Randall told the doctor he wanted one. LOL!

The surgery center was great - the staff so wonderful with children and families. Randall got to pick out a cool toy to take home. He'll be back to school tomorrow, but the swelling and black and blue will take a while to resolve. I'm just glad it went well and it's over!!!

Hey Aunt Jennie-
My eye is blacker everyday and the white of my eye is bright red. It's great because if I move my eyeball to the right, it looks really gross and all the girls scream.
Love,
Randall
